General Motors Donates Chevrolet Equinox and a Malibu to Cerritos College Automotive

General Motors (GM) donated a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu to the Cerritos College Automotive Technology program. GM donated the vehicles from Tustin Buick/GMC and The Westside Group in Torrance.

NORWALK, Calif. - May 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The vehicles will be part of Cerritos College’s General Motors training. The GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) program is a two-year automotive program designed to upgrade the technical competency and professionalism of the dealership technician. The curriculum is designed by General Motors and Cerritos College, and leads to an Associate Degree.

"We are fortunate to receive two more Global Architecture vehicles from General Motors. The 2014 Malibu has a new 12 volt stop/start technology where the vehicle basically doesn’t idle in order to save fuel. The gas engine will shut down and lights and in stop and go traffic. It is a Global vehicle so it is different from a diagnostic standpoint,” said Joe Mulleary. Both vehicles will be utilized in our GM ASEP courses and they are both models we currently do not have in our vehicle fleet. The students will learn a great deal from these new vehicles.”

The GM ASEP program prepares students for the workforce by providing classroom and hands-on instruction as well paid on-the-job training.

“Our ASEP program has 16 first year students and 15 second year students. These students will be able to work on the donated vehicles during the hands-on portion of our classes,” said Cerritos College Automotive Instructor, Joe Mulleary.

The next GM program at Cerritos College starts October, 2014. To find out how to apply for the GM program, visit: http://cms.cerritos.edu/auto/asep.htm
