LOUISVILLE, Ky. - May 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Kentucky Playwrights Workshop, Inc. has announced the winning plays in its short play contest the Kentucky New Play Series. All six short one act plays, none longer than fifteen minutes, will be premiered at the Kentucky State Fair this coming August. Additionally, KPW is seeking theatres willing to produce the scripts during the next year at venues across the state.

The six playwrights whose plays were selected as winners of this year’s Kentucky New Play Series are:
Richard Cavendish, Richmond, “Reindeer”,
Nancy Gall-Clayton, metro Louisville, “The Curiosity Quilt”
George McGee, Georgetown, “My Father Thinks He’s Irish”
Philip Paradis, Ft. Thomas, “Sunny Side”
Rebecca Ryland, Danville, “When Grandma Davis Hit the Glass”
Brian Walker, Louisville, “Visitation Privileges”

This year’s plays will be premiered at the Kentucky State Fair in August and produced by the Artist Asylum Theatre, Elizabethtown.

This year though is the first time that KPW has attempted to find theatres willing and able to produce the KNPS scripts as an evening’s entertainment. “To make this truly a Kentucky New Play Series,” said KPW president William McCann, "we sought out not only playwrights from across the state, but now we are seeking theatres willing to produce new plays by these home-grown Kentucky playwrights.”

Theatres and theatre groups wishing to consider producing this year’s award-winning KNPS plays between August 2014 and July 2015 should contact McCann by mail (KPW PO Box 59, Corinth, KY 41010) or email (ky.playwright@yahoo.com) to request the scripts or more information.

Previous winners of the KNPS have included “Outings” by Mary Christopher Grogan (Winchester) and “Three O’clock by William H. McCann, Jr. (Corinth) in 2012; “The Beauty of Things” by Gary Eldridge (Morehead), “The Engagement” by George McGee (Georgetown) and “A Life in a Day of Bobby/Robert” by Tim Soulis (Lexington) in 2013. All of those plays have premiered at the Kentucky State Fair.
