The Church Avenue BID Announces 2014 Caribbean-American Heritage Weekend on Church Avenue

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- With support from the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the Church Avenue Business Improvement District kicks off Caribbean-American Heritage Month with HealthPlus Amerigroup on as part of a weekend-long tribute to Caribbean culture on Church Avenue in Brooklyn.

HealthPlus Amerigroup will be launching the three-day event on Fri. June 20 at 2009 Church Avenue with face painting, music, and giveaways and businesses on Church Avenue between Coney Island Avenue and Flatbush Avenue will be setting up tables of merchandise in front of their stores and offering special sales. However, the main attraction will be on June 21 (the summer solstice) in conjunction with the Make Music New York concert series, when the BID will present "Island Sound," a free Caribbean music festival, featuring live Kompa, Reggae, Soca, and Dancehall music.

The Festival lineup features former Dancehall/EDM powerhouse SkerritBwoy, Jamaican Reggae/Pop Artist Kstarr, Guyanese Singer, Songwriter, and Producer Osafo and Red Hot Radio’s DJ Elly.

Community members are encouraged to come out, pick up a snack at any one of Church Avenue's many food stores, and enjoy the live music at our one-day outdoor plaza on E. 17th Street filled with palm trees, tables, and chairs. Attendees will also enjoy natural fruit and vegetable juices from Downtown Natural market and free promotional giveaways.

The Church Avenue Business Improvement District seeks to enhance the Church Avenue commercial district for businesses, residents, and shoppers by making it cleaner and safer, promoting the neighborhood as a shopping destination, and providing development resources to Church Avenue merchants and property owners.
