NEW IN DEVON: glamping geared up for the less able-bodied, with Classic Cottages

June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Classic Cottages, the UK’s leading independent cottage holiday company and specialist in the South West, introduces safari tents on stilts for disabled children and adults - with an exciting array of on-site activities including hydrotherapy, horse riding, beauty treatments, blacksmithing, pottery and pygmy pony petting.

Seale-Hayne in South Devon – with Dartmoor to the north and golden beaches a short drive south – is owned and run by the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, a charity devoted to providing cultural, educational and physical support for disabled or disadvantaged children and adults.

Here, Classic Cottages now offers two fabulous safari tents (each sleeping six), built in the trees but fully wheelchair accessible and completely kitted out for less able-bodied guests. Remarkably spacious, each luxurious dwelling has two bedrooms (a double and a bunk-room), a double den-bed in the main living area, a wet room with shower and a cloakroom with wash-basin and proper loo.

The living areas have comfortable sofas, wooden dining tables and chairs, and wood-fired ranges which not only keep evenings cosy but serve as the main cooking facility. Each kitchen has a traditional Belfast sink, a fridge, a kettle and a power socket for charging your iPhone or laptop. Set in a little dell, each safari tent has a large wooden deck with uplifting views across the Devon countryside.

In the impressive main building of the on-site Trust, there’s a licensed bistro in the Edwardian Quadrangle serving lunch and dinner – and offering a ‘Pantry-to-go’ service for picnics and self-catering. There’s a hydrotherapy pool; classes including art, pottery, music, blacksmithing and gardening; entertainment in the form of live music, kite flying, giant frisbee and bicycle hire; and the trust’s team is happy to provide any assistance equipment needed.

A week’s stay costs from £63 pp (£378 total).

If you’d rather stay right on site, Valley View (sleeps five) is a striking contemporary apartment decorated in soothing greys and whites and all on one level. Set up with all disabilities in mind, it has an electric bed and hoists, and a shower chair can be provided if required.

A stay here costs from £70 pp (£348 total).

Please note: prices are based on full occupancy and, by staying at any of these properties, guests are supporting the charity objectives of the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust.
