CHARLOTTE, N.C. - June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Flavored honey. Skincare products. Designer bowties. These are all new products that came to market this past spring, fueled by a new wave of entrepreneurial spirit – in kids.

Looking back at your own childhood, you may remember playing with business – perhaps the neighborhood’s proverbial lemonade stand or babysitting.  And these experiences captured some of business’s most important lessons – you just didn’t realize it.

Some experts say that when kids play with business and entrepreneurship, it begins to establish a new way of thinking for them - a more creative, innovative way of thinking that permits greater risk taking and leadership prowess as children become adults.

A powerful champion of the importance of kids playing with business, is a Charlotte-based start-up called Bea is for Business. An educational platform that teaches kids about business, the company’s products are meant for kids ages 5-9.

Bea is for Business currently has two children’s books in print and ebook format, a school curriculum called ‘Bea School’, and a robust website of online materials for parents, teachers, and kids.

With its books and resources, Bea is for Business is at the forefront of encouraging kids to play with business. The company’s mission is to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

“Getting kids to play with business teaches them an enormous amount about life, how our world works, vocabulary, teamwork and creativity,” says co-author and CEO, Jamie Brown. “The beauty of allowing your kids to play with business is that they are learning while free playing. And this is especially important during non-school time periods, like summer.”

The Bea is for Business platform puts kids first by putting the materials in an ‘easy to grasp’ format. The Bea is for Business books, for example, are crafted as kid-friendly business case studies. Children learn about business through reading – another staple of summer vacation.

At the heart of the platform is one, central, character - Beatrice Banks, “Bea” for short (pronounced “Bee”). Bea utilizes business terminology and experiences, such as implementing an assembly line for production, to teach concepts pivotal to the understanding of the current, business environment.

Says Meg Seitz, co-author and Vice President of Bea is for Business, “Our hope is that over summer vacation, kids will be encouraged to launch start-up ventures instead of just being plugged in to television or other types of technology.”
