Big turnout for first ever SLK Day at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands

The Mercedes-Benz Club held its very first SLK Day on Sunday June 22, and owners came out in big numbers to join in the fun with a staggering 110 SLKs on display.

STAMFORD, U.K. - June 30, 2014 - PRLog -- The event was held at Mercedes-Benz World, within the historic Brooklands motor racing circuit and next to the Brooklands Museum. Organiser of the event Tony De Frates commented: “At one point Brooklands Drive was full to bursting with SLKs – possibly the largest number ever seen together in the UK.”

All drivers received an MB World goody bag containing a commemorative mug, a special reprint of Classic and Sports Car's January 2014 SLK buyers' guide and other goodies provided by Peter Best Insurance Services and Footman James. A free prize draw was held with prizes donated by the SL Shop and Mercedes-Benz UK.

This was a day devoted to Mercedes’ smaller sports model and although all versions were welcomed – from the first launched in 1996 to the latest models on sale today – it was the first generation R170 SLK that were most in evidence. Indeed the winner of the ‘Shine and Show’ competition was Simon Cheesman who had rescued a rusty and very tired early SLK320, restoring it himself and painting it in a striking blue. Runner up was John Cummings who made a mini exhibition around his SLK55 AMG. Both enthusiasts were presented with a special gift pack courtesy of Meguiar's car care by Club Chairman Ian Keers.

Two talks one technical and the other non-technical were held during the day by Club experts and several parade laps were made by some 70 or so SLKs around the MB World circuit.

The event was so popular the Club will now be making the SLK Day an annual fixture.
