By: HYASA Center In the words of former first lady, Rosalynn Carter, “They served us – now we will serve them,” said event director Anna Moses of the Hyasa Center. The event was co-sponsored by the HYASA Center and the American Armenian Theatrical and Musical Society. “While Americans all over the United States observed our fallen heroes, HYASA Center in Glendale, California pledged their continued support to veterans, current members of the armed forces and their families, “Moses said. The tribute began with the presentation of the color guard by members of the United States Marine Corp., followed by the National Anthem, sung by 15-year-old Golda Berkman. Co-host of Ceremony Troy Ragland delivered the welcoming address. Additional entertainment included the Scottish Pipe and Drums, a group of traditional Scottish Bagpipe musicians who have been performing in Southern California for more than 30 years. Performances included vocalists Marat Hayrapetyan; Gary Sevani, international dance choreographer, coordinated the event and author and television reality show celebrity, Jackie Christie served as emcee. Award presentations followed, with a special commendation to HYASA Center by Glendale Council Member, Laura Friedman, from Congressman Adam Schiff. The award was accepted by HYASA Center’s President, Anna Moses. “There are many things we can do to support our active-duty troops, veterans and their families,” Moses said. She added that veterans face the challenges of military service: from multiple deployments that separate family members, to recovering from the wounds of war. Contributing and embracing support to the success of the event and support is AATMS’ founder, Victor Mardirossian. Special guest of Honor, Vietnam war veteran, Purple Heart recipient, Martin Walter was greeted with tremendous applause after receiving his award from HYASA. Awards for distinguished service were presented to Deborah Hayter and Norma Dalke PR, Monalisa Okojie of Nehita Jewelry, Deborah Flattery and Brynja McGrady of Miracle Hydrate, Realtor Pamela Tinsley, Vaneric Marshall, co-owner of LATalkLive, life coach, Dawn Christie and talk show host, Jo’El Ramirez. HYASA’ After the concert, special guests and sponsors were treated to a VIP reception and dinner at the MGN Five Star Cinema, a theater. Sponsors for this event included: Affordable Advocates; Murad, Inc.; Union Bank of California; Alexander’U; Event creator, HYASA Center, located in the heart of Glendale, CA; was established in 2000 to produce charitable capital for humanitarian causes. They fund programs in need of immediate relief, rehabilitation and ultimately help rebuild devastated communities through philanthropic means. The American Armenian Theatrical & Musical Society co-produced the Memorial Day event.
