Follow on Google News | Provost Urges Local Girls to get on their Bikes for Cycletta ScotlandBy: Volpa The Provost is set to open Scotland’s Macmillan Cycletta event for a second year running when it returns to the historic grounds of Scone Palace on Sunday 5th October. The event series, which is also backed by Olympian Victoria Pendleton CBE, attracted over 600 participants last year despite the rain and this year hopes to encourage more women and girls to sign up and take part. Commenting on the event, Liz said: “I am delighted to welcome Macmillan Cycletta back to Scotland and Perthshire and to be part of this fantastic event. In the year when Scotland comes under the world’s sporting spotlight as hosts of The Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup, it’s great to offer an event that encourages more and more women into cycling and I especially hope that the young women of Scotland sign up and take part." Pictured with the Provost were two young ladies from Perth High School. Amy Bauchope (15) and Rosa Hollas (15), both of whom are considering taking part in the challenge. Amy commented: “I’d really love to take part. I’m hoping to get a bike for my birthday which is this month and I’ve asked my Mum if she’d like to take part with me. It would be my first major sporting event and really great fun.” This year ladies aged 12 and upwards will be able to sign up for 20km, 40km, 70km and, for those ladies wanting to set themselves a bigger challenge, there is the newly introduced 100km. Young ladies aged between 12 and 16-years-old can also take part when accompanied by an adult, opening the event up to as wide an audience as possible. For the younger children, Cycletta Scotland will also host a Scootathlon taking place on the same day. The Scootathlon is a mini fun triathlon for children between the ages of 4 and 8 where they scoot, bike and run. Girls and boys will race together in various age categories, completing a 390m Scoot, 390m Bike and 250m Run. The Cycletta website offers a host of information on training, race day advice and bike maintenance.
