Certain Select Pre-Owned Honda Models Considered Safe Choices for Teen DriversThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named select model year Accords and CR-Vs as safe vehicles.
By: Community Honda With many teens driving used cars, the IIHS determined it was important enough to create a list to help parents and teen drivers in making smart choices about which pre-owned vehicles should be driven. Part of this decision comes through research done by the IIHS finding that the leading cause of death among teenagers is motor vehicle accidents. The type of vehicle that is being driven plays a role in that. Select Honda Accord, CR-V, Element, Odyssey, and Pilot used models have been selected by the IIHS as being some of the best and safest pre-owned vehicles for teen drivers. For vehicles under $20,000, model year Accord Sedans from 2012 and on, 2012 and later CR-V models, 2013 and 2014 Accord Coupes, Elements from 2007 and on, and 2011 and later Odysseys all made the list. 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey models and 2006 and later Honda Pilots were also selected on the list for vehicles under $10,000. Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda, said that a top priority for Honda is “enhancing the safety of our customers and quality of our products.” St. Cyr also added that Honda is an ideal choice due to the brand’s commitment to safety and durability. Honda continues to look for ways to enhance the safety of not only its drivers and passengers, but also of all road users. No manufacturer has more vehicles rated as Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick + by the IIHS than Honda.
