Championship Bull Riding Set to Award Two Dickinson State University Rodeo Scholarships

DICKINSON, N.D. - Aug. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- DICKINSON, North Dakota– August 20, 2014 – Dickinson State University Rodeo Coach, Eudell Larson, announced today that two DSU students will be presented with rodeo scholarships during the intermission of the 2^nd Annual Dielco Crane Championship Bull Riding event on Saturday night.

Blake Smith, a bareback rider from Zap, North Dakota and Teddi Schwalger, a barrel racer and roper from Mandan, North Dakota will each receive $1,500 from Championship Bull Riding and Barrett and Craig Bucking Bulls to attend school and participate on the DSU Rodeo Team. Both Smith and Schwalger are entering their junior year and are previous qualifiers of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Finals. Four time World Champion bull rider Tuff Hedeman will present the scholarships.

For bull riding fans it won’t get any better than the CBR’s annual trip to Dickinson and this year organizers of the Dielco Crane CBR are stepping things up a notch. Eight North Dakotans will go up against thirty- two bull riders from ten states, including two World Champions, Sage Kimzey and Josh Barentine, and top ten rider Tate Smith from Litchville, ND.  Riding for the $10,000 prize purse, and the opportunity to add valuable points toward qualification for the CBR national televised “Road to Cheyenne” tour, the cowboys arrive in Dickinson on Friday with two opportunities to greet fans and sign autographs. In addition to 40 riders competing in the long round for $10,000 added money, fans will have the opportunity to see the top scoring rider from the long round attempt to make the 8 second whistle on the bounty bull, Continental Rock. If successful, the bull rider wins the added $5,000 bonus money. The bounty bull is presented by Continental Resources and Rockpile Energy.

This year organizers of the CBR stepped it up a notch. Fans have the rare opportunity to witness three icons of the rodeo world in the same arena for the first time.  Four time World Champion Bull Rider Tuff Hedeman will be joined by the #1 ranked bull rider in the world, newly crowned CBR World Champion, Sage Steele Kimzey, and former World Champion bucking bull and 2015 bucking bull of the year runner-up, Ragin JT, at the 2^nd Annual Dielco Crane Championship Bull Riding at the Biesiot Arena on the campus of Dickinson State University.

Sage Kimzey rode the locally owned bucking bull, Ragin JT, to win $107,000 on July 22 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the CBR World Finals. The August 23^rd Dickinson event will be the kickoff of the new CBR season and will bring two hours of heart stopping bull riding action from some of the nation’s top cowboys as they take on the 2,000 pound foes.
Fans will get a rare opportunity to see locally owned “JT” up close. This big hearted red bull has made a lot of cowboys a lot of money.  The Bucking Bull of the Year finalist will be featured at the bull riding, but in a rare appearance outside the competitive arena, “JT” will also be available to sign autographs take pictures with fans on Friday, August 22, at 3 pm at Runnings Farm and Fleet in Dickinson. In the CBR JT has bucked his way to the statistic of the most 90 point plus rides on the 2013-14 Road to Cheyenne Tour. JT won the high marked ride of the Los Fresno, Texas CBR in September and the high marked (rank) bull of the George Paul Memorial in April.

Ragin JT, owned by Zach Craig of Dickinson, ND is one of the most well-known and productive bucking bulls on the professional circuits. The six year old bull dominated the American Bucking Bull Incorporated (ABBI) 2010 competitive season with earnings in excess of winning a $100,000. His total earnings as a bucking bull exceed $300,000.
