SAN JOSE, Calif. - Aug. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Internationally published author Sharon E. Cathcart's 2013 book, "Through the Opera Glass," was named runner-up for Best Short Story Collection in the 2014 eFestival of Words Independent Book awards, the author announced today.

Cathcart wrote the book during 2012, creating a series of short stories based on characters in her 2009 debut novel, "In The Eye of the Beholder," and her then work-in-progress, 2014's "In The Eye of The Storm."

"The challenge I set myself was to write at least one short story each week, using various writing prompts I found on the internet," Cathcart explained.  "I wanted to keep my skills fresh, as well as challenging myself to grow as an author by looking at my characters in new ways."

The stories in the collection cross numerous time periods, regions and cultures, ranging from Belle Epoque Paris to post-World War II San Francisco.

"I am honored and grateful to the nominating committee, festival organizers, and voters for this award," Cathcart concluded.  "Each and every reader and fan has my sincere thanks."
