August 26, 2014 - BROOKLYN, NY - chashama and the NYC Economic Development Corporation invites the greater New York City area to visit chashama's largest subsidized studio program located at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal. Spread across two adjacent buildings and situated along Brooklyn's waterfront in the Sunset Park neighborhood, the studios will feature painters, sculptors, photographers, and experimental mixed media artists.

For one weekend only, guests can visit over 85 studios, meet the artists, explore finished art and works-in-progress, and join a tour to experience the rich history of the Brooklyn Army Terminal buildings.

On Friday, Turnstile Tours (http://turnstiletours.com/) will offer tours of Building B about the past and present of the Army Terminal, highlighting its military history and industrial development. Join a tour by signing up in the lobby - first tour will begin at 6pm. Notable tenants UncommonGoods (http://www.uncommongoods.com/lists/design-challenges) will join us on opening night as well as Silly Phillie (http://sillyphillie.com/) for both nights and will hold informational booths in the lobby to raise awareness about their businesses.

Neighbors NARS Foundation (http://www.narsfoundation.org/event_OSfall2014.php) will also hold open studios on Saturday, September 20, 3-9pm, offering free shuttle buses every 15 minutes between the studios. Municipal Art Society (https://secure3.convio.net/masnyc/site/Ecommerce/50400021?VIEW_PRODUCT=true&product_id=4188&store_id=1221) will also offer a 2:30pm tour on Saturday, and guests can sign up by pre-registering on their website (https://secure3.convio.net/masnyc/site/Ecommerce/50400021?VIEW_PRODUCT=true&product_id=4188&store_id=1221).

In partnership with the NYC Economic Development Corporation, chashama has provided subsidized studios for hundreds of artists since 2005. The studio program expanded from 20,000 to 60,000 sq. ft. in 2009 to accommodate the growing need of space from local artists.
