Punter/Kicker For Nation’s #1 Ranked High School Football Team Has A Higher Purpose

LAS VEGAS - Sept. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- As the season began for Gage Wilson and The Bishop Gorman Gaels, both the team and Wilson, their punter/kicker, were riding high.  While the Gaels opened the season as the top ranked high school football team in the country, Gage Wilson received an offer to play for Yale when he graduates.

Since being diagnosed at age 11, Wilson has been active with type 1 diabetes (T1D).  He and his family have learned how to manage T1D so that Gage can do the thing he loves best: play football at the highest level of competition.

Wilson started the Gage Wilson Foundation (http://gagewilson.org) to raise awareness for type 1 diabetes and collect donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (“JDRF”).

The 2014 season is already off to a fantastic start with WIlson making a 37- yard field goal and five PATs in the opening game of the season, a 44-0 win against Brophy College Prep (AZ). The Gaels followed that with another success against Servite High School (CA), a 48-27 victory with Wilson contributing six extra points. As Wilson has done since first being diagnosed with T1D, he managed his diabetes during the course of both games.

The Gage Wilson Foundation, Inc. was created to provide scholarship support for diabetes camps, raise funds for ongoing medical research leading to a cure, and to inspire insulin dependent children and teens to lead athletic and active lifestyles. Donations the foundation receives will be 100% donated to the JDRF organization.
