Cliff started doing comedy in high school, performing in the school lunch room, and when allowed by teachers, at the end of class. At his high school graduation, the band let Cliff do some material, they liked him so much, they began paying him to open for them on tour in upstate NY. Cliff worked as a Livingston County Sheriff's deputy for five years, before the call to Hollywood was too strong. He joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1983, fulfilling his dreams of working for a large metropolitan police force, and starting his stand up career.
