BURLINGTON, Vt. - Sept. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- (Burlington, VT)  Bullying can begin as early as preschool and intensify over the course of the child's elementary and middle school years. One of the most common and effective ways to find out if a child is being bullied, is to simply talk, listen and watch. However, talking about being bullied can be hard for young children. Some children who are bullied may be too intimidated to tell an adult for fear of being labeled a "tattle-tale" or admitting weakness.

Research has shown that multiple strategies, including story telling, can dramatically curtail bullying and its harmful affects.  Mike Dreiblatt, President of StandUpToBullying.net, and Steve Breakstone, Youth Educator with Project Against Violent Encounters of Bennington County, VT (www.PAVEBennington.org), co-authored The Wallop Story, How I Learned to Stop the Bullying (Peak City Publishing, 2014) a children's chapter book about Steve, the new kid in school and victim of bullying.  The book also includes a Bullying Prevention Guide to teach and role-play bullying prevention skills.

About the Book

The Wallop Story is about 8 year-old Steve, who just moved to a new elementary school and has become the target of bullies –for no good reason at all!  And although his father tells him to wallop the bullies to get them to back off, he discovers that trying to wallop anyone is definitely not a good plan!  As he struggles with what wallop really means, his new friends at school teach him a smart, assertive and strong technique to stop any bully.

The Wallop Story is told in first person, using language a third grader is comfortable with and pictures to illustrate body language. Effective as a self-study for ages 6-9, it is also adaptable to class activities. The book will be used in workshops and seminars along with the How to Stop Bullying and Social Aggression - Activities and Lesson Plans to Teach Empathy, Friendship and Respect (Corwin Press, 2009) also co-authored by the duo.

The Wallop story scheduled to be published in October, 2014, just in time for National Bully Prevention month and available as a standalone book for parents, retail stores and schools through the publisher and most popular online sites.
