Follow on Google News | Cat Cubie Launches Public Appeal to Raise Funds for Tree Hub at Glasgow Botanic GardensBy: Volpa The campaign is directly appealing to the very people who enjoy the Gardens on a regular basis. Thousands of people walk through the Gardens every week and, if each of those people were to make a donation then the campaign would be well on its way to meeting its £100k target. To make a donation, visit www.glasgowbotanicgardens.com/ Cat said: “Many, many local people get the benefit of the Botanics on a daily basis whether they’re walking to work, university or just out for a peaceful stroll in a busy, bustling city. The new Tree Hub will be a fantastic addition to Botanics and I hope local people will get their greenfingers behind the campaign. The Botanics are full of beautiful plants and flowers, but they shouldn’t put the fantastic trees in the shade. “ Friends of Glasgow Botanic Gardens have collaborated with National Tree Collections of Scotland to get the Tree Hub project off the ground and are working hard to promote Scotland’s rich and important tree collections. Tom Christian, Project Officer at National Tree Collections of Scotland, said: “The Botanics here in Glasgow has an incredible collection of trees which come from all over the world. Many of the trees growing here were sent back from far flung places by Scottish adventurers and plan collectors. There are so many extraordinary stories in these gardens waiting to be told, which is why we’re so excited to be launching this appeal to make the tree hub a reality for the people of Glasgow.” Set to be a stunning focal point, a 6 metre high tree sculpture with a roof cover symbolising the trees around it will be at the heart of the Gardens, with bursts of light streaming through glazed panels. The sculpture will offer a serene and peaceful place for people to relax in the centre of the city, as well as an opportunity to learn the hidden stories of the garden’s trees. The Tree Hub is the centrepiece of a variety of tree additions including a new Tree Trail and staff in the gardens offering talks and tours that will bring the Gardens to life. Cat added: “As a West Ender, I feel very lucky to have such a haven on my doorstep. The new Tree Hub is going to be a spectacular site that will become part of daily life for the local community who pass through every day, and I can’t wait to go for a run (or walk!) past.” How to Donate: To make a donation, visit www.glasgowbotanicgardens.com/ For more information about Glasgow Botanic Gardens, visit www.glasgowbotanicgardens.com Ends For further information, please contact: Anna Gunn E: a.gunn@volpa.co.uk T: 01738 658187 M: 07803589732 Photo Captions Images are free to use Sct_Volpa_CatCubieTree_ End
