Miller YMCA Winter Flag Football League Begins Dec. 6, Signups Underway

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. - Sept. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- The Miller Family YMCA's Flag Football League begins its fifth season on December 6. Sign-ups are now underway. A free skills clinic and registration day will be held Saturday, October 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Del Prado Playfields (Via Rio and Calle Del Prado in Dos Vientos).

         The league is divided into three divisions: kindergarten and first grade, second and third grades and fourth through sixth grades. Practices are on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. at Del Prado Playfields. The first practice is November 25. The eight-game season is held at Peppertree Park in Newbury Park. No games are scheduled on December 20 and December 27.

         At the October 11 clinic and registration day, football coaches will run drills to help athletes understand plays, improve skills and increase speed. Free healthy snacks and water will be available. Athletes who register at or before the skills clinic will receive a free cinch top shoe bag at the clinic.

         "Kids learn football basics as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship," says Jessica Bringelson, programs director at the Miller Y. "While the league is semi-competitive, it is especially geared toward players who are new to the sport.”

         The Y is also looking for coaches and assistant coaches.

         Registration per player for full YMCA members is $120 and $140 for program members (plus $40 for program membership). A $15 late registration fee applies after November 15.
