McCarthy and the Port of Houston Authority worked together to achieve another successful project at the port,” said Kurt Knebel, McCarthy’s vice president of civil operations. “With Barbours Cut known as one of the premium container-handling facilities in the country, our team worked diligently and paid close attention to detail to ensure the final product lived up to its reputation.” As part of the rehabilitation, McCarthy demolished portions of the existing structure and constructed new cast-in-place concrete crane beams, supported by drilled shafts. Additionally, McCarthy upgraded the facilities’ utilities, including potable water and electrical services, in addition to constructing a new precast stevedore building. “The completion of this project at Barbours Cut allows us to move forward in making sure the Port Authority is providing the best facilities possible for customers,” said Jeff Davis, Managing Director of Operations for the Port Authority. “We look forward to the new cranes for the facility being delivered early next year.” The Barbours Cut terminal has competitive tariff rates and efficient transportation of containers, and is an ideal port of call for shippers with cargo originating from or destined for the United States, Midwest and West Coast.
