Carpenters union awards local students with scholarships

HAMMOND, Ind. - Sept. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Local 599 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) awarded $500 scholarships to 5 college bound students.

Each year, Local 599 awards $500 scholarships to deserving graduating seniors whose parent is a member of the Local 599. Local 599 has been presenting students with these scholarships every year since 2011.

Scholarship recipients for the 2014-2015 school year include:

Indigo Moran (father Dan Moran is a Local 599 member) - Indigo plans to pursue a degree in Art Therapy.
Codey Zurek (father Robert Zurek is a Local 599 member) - Codey plans to pursue a degree in communications at John Carroll University.
Jacob Winarski (father John Winarski is the Local 599 president) - Jacob plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice at Indiana University Northwest.
Paige Darnell (father Stan Darnell is a Local 599 member)

“Education is one of the pillars of the IKORCC. We know the difference it makes, so we do everything we can to support furthering the education of our children, whether its through our apprenticeship program or though college sponsorships,” said Tom Dorsey, IKORCC Senior Manager.

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters represents more than 32,000 professional tradespeople in 43 locals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Tennessee.
