October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month

ORLANDO, Fla. - Oct. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Sudden cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating, resulting in no blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. October is dedicated to educating patients and the public about what sudden cardiac arrest is and how to respond to a cardiac arrest. Nearly 300,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year in the United States. It is shown that if the patient experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest is treated within minutes it improves their chance of survival.

At CVI, they are able to screen patients to identify factors that may increase risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  Even if an individual is not currently a cardiac patient, they might still be at risk. CVI recommends contacting a Primary Care Physician to get checked out and take time to learn about what to do if you see someone with sudden cardiac arrest.  Information is a key part of prevention.
