Follow on Google News | Brazil’s Kaique Pacheco Wins Liberty, Texas Horizon Series Bull RidingLooking for Rides in All the Right Places, International Athletes Succeed at the Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo
It seems at times the bull riding industry has been taken hostage by international athletes. The well prepared, super trained and emotional dedicated group of bull riders from Brazil are becoming not only one of the most dominant rider groups in the history of the televised divisions of the sport, but everyday winners at the local level as well. Liberty, Texas was a perfect example. The only two riders to ride two were fellow countrymen, 34 year old Robson Aragao and 20 year old rookie, Kaique Pacheco. Kaique Pacheco, the latest to arrive from Brazil, continues the trend winning his first event on United States soil. Riding two bulls for an average score of 166 points on the Wednesday night bull riding, Pacheco beat Aragao’s 157.5 and took his place on both rosters of the professional industry. Here is what makes this new breakout rider so dynamic. He was born into a bull riding dynasty in Brazil. Not only did his father and grandfather ride bulls, but his mother’s father and grandfather as well. He is definitely “double-bred” During the Horizon series, CBR feature’s the man vs beast bull matchups. Orchestrated by the bull man extraordinaire Billy Jones of Moscow, the “other side of the ride” was pretty darn good. There were 37 clashes of top ranked riders from all associations, 10 NFR bound buckers including bull team winner Pete Carr of Carr Classic Pro Rodeo and 7 bulls that will be in Mercedes on Saturday night for the CBR’s $70,000 Road to Cheyenne event purse and a few that were staying in shape for Las Vegas later this month. Powered by an open bull team challenge, only 7 riders covered one bull in the long go to advance with 5 being drawn back to get a second chance for the $9,000 purse. Coming off of a win in the CBR’s 8 Seconds to Glory event in Gonzales, Louisiana, Lane Toon continued his streak winning in round one on for 86.5. In a round where the riders were struggling to make the whistle Cardozo made it look easy with 84.5. Houston’s Craig Jackson answered with an 82 point score followed by Aragao, Pacheco, Mora and Hupp getting by with 70 point plus rides. The Short Round was no different than the first with the bulls dominating their foes. Aragao striking first with a 77.5 score on Cory Melton’s All Shook Up. It sounds like a bad ride, but you had to be there to appreciate the effort on both the rider and the bull. Hanging on to make the whistle after the bull bucked inside the chutes trying to get out, seeming a little disoriented, the bull never stopped trying to buck in spite of stumbling to his knees scarily close to the side out gate. Aragao never lost balance and salvaged a ride that seemed doomed to end badly. The Liberty open bull team challenge featured a four bull team competition resulting in a $30,000 payout for the top four teams. Pete Carr entered two teams and won first and second followed by J.C. Knapp, Mansfield, Texas. “I brought them to help keep them in shape and legged up for the National Finals Rodeo”, said Carr. Well known to bull riders as a great draw, #838 Lineman bucked his way to the high marked bull award and bonus check of #2,500. The six year old son of Stinger and out of a J.Lo daughter has been a perennial favorite draw for three years on the PRCA circuit, recently helping World Champ Cody Teel and rookie Tim Bingham in August (90 and 91 points respectively) Video available at https://www.facebook.com/ Liberty, Texas Horizon Results - October 15, 2014 Round One 1.
