F.K. Day Founder and President of World Bicycle Relief Honored with Prestigious 2014 GQ Leader Award

Bicycle Industry Leader Recognized by GQ and Movado for Changing Lives Through the Work of World Bicycle Relief
 
NEW YORK - Oct. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- F.K. Day, Founder and President of World Bicycle Relief, will be honored with the prestigious 2014 GQ Leader Award presented by Movado on October 22, 2014, in New York City at the GQ Gentleman’s Ball. The award recognizes a handful of modern men who champion some of today’s essential causes.

F.K. Day will be receiving the GQ Leader Award in recognition of his work as Founder and President of World Bicycle Relief, an innovative organization that delivers high quality, specially designed, rugged bicycles in the developing world that simultaneously support health care, education and local economies. Focused mainly on rural Africa where reliable and affordable transportation is often unavailable, the Buffalo Bicycles have a transformative impact on recipients.  With the time saved by riding a bike (bicycling is four times faster than walking), recipients are able to accomplish much more in a single day- improving health care and educational outcomes, as well as boosting profits for small entrepreneurs. Since 2005, World Bicycle Relief has delivered over 200,000 bicycles and trained over 1,000 field mechanics. World Bicycle Relief operates five assembly plants in Africa, employing close to 100 African nationals, creating long-term, sustainable economic opportunities across the continent.

F.K. Day will be honored along with Sean D. Carasso, founder of Falling Whistles, Nick Ehrmann, Founder and CEO of Blue Engine, Stephen Powell, Executive Director of Mentoring USA and Barrett Ward, Founder and CEO of fashionAble who will also receiving GQ Leader Awards.

The Leader Awards recipients were chosen by GQ’s advisory panel: Jenna Bush Hager, contributing correspondent of NBC’s TODAY and chair of UNICEF Next Generation; Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water; Blake Mycoskie, founder and chief shoe giver TOMS; Paul Rieckhoff, founder and CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America; and Darnell Strom, executive of CAA Foundation.

Also being honored at the GQ Gentleman’s Ball, Andrew Garfield, Joshua Jackson, Taylor Kitsch, George Lopez and Zachary Quinto will receive Ambassador Awards for their commitment to and support of many charitable causes.
