Stellar Art and C&C Alpha sketch India in a Cocktail of Colours

ENGADINE, Switzerland - Oct. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- In its annual arts and cultural festival which  spanned August 22 to August 31, the Stellar International Art Foundation and C&C Alpha got the lid off some of the rare Indian art forms by unveiling the unseen works of an illustrious group that included the likes of Paresh Maty, Jayasuri Burman, and the late M F Hussain.

The event was the St. Moritz Art Masters, a yearly feature that displays highly accomplished works from the world over. This year the theme was Indian, centred on the works of  M F Husain from his largely unsung Maria series.

The series was first conceptualised by Hussain in Prague and comprises a of eighty gestural ink and pencil drawings. Essentially, the series hallmarks the mid-1950s as a distinguished phase in Hussain’s life. The artworks narrate his avid affection for Czech interpreter, Maria Zourkova, who set the wheels of his life to the west.

The vigour with which Husain touched on his pastoral palette reflects a strong admiration of the Czech landscape. The Maria series, at one end of the spectrum holds up the ‘prevailing interests of abstraction in Europe’, on the other it produces contrasting drawings that came across as transparent gestures, devoid of ambiguities.

The Maria series holds some highly rare works which required the concerted efforts of Stellar Art Foundation, its founder Anita Choudhrie, and long-standing patrons, C&C Alpha Group (CCAG).

The series was conceptualised and executed into a work of display by Paresh Maity, the well-known Indian artist famous for portraying distinctly stylised watercolours. Like Hussain, a large part of Maity’s work captures the Indian landscape from wide personal perspectives.  Standing out tall in his works are the undulating vistas of Japan, the architectural brilliance of Pagodas, and the decay of the Venice- all unmasked in a torrent of vibrant colours.

Maria also lines out lightly the works of Maity’s wife, Jayasri Burman, an artist true to her Indian lineage. Her seasoned fables on Indian mythology and religion are visually enticing, radiating discoveries of art.

The Stellar International Art Foundation is a delightful fusion of local and international works.  Through St. Moritz Art Master’s, the Foundation yields art collections contemporary to the word, and delightfully awe-inspiring.
