By: iGEM iGEM, the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by hosting the Giant Jamboree, the collegiate division’s culminating event. Working all summer long in multidisciplinary teams, university students worked to solve real-world challenges by designing, building, testing, and characterizing genetically engineered biological systems with standard, interchangeable parts called BioBricks from the Registry of Standard Biological Parts (http://parts.igem.org/ iGEM is not just a student competition but a place where the leading experts in synthetic biology gather. Through the iGEM competition, the iGEM Foundation promotes education, safety and security, policy and regulation, multidisciplinary teamwork, technology, community, and open sharing.
