Story of Notorious First-Season “America’s Most Wanted” Case Released on Kindle

Written by former Green Bay Press-Gazette reporter Mike Dauplaise, “Torture at the Back Forty” details the Christmas weekend 1983 sexual assault and murder of Margaret Anderson in Green Bay by four members of two motorcycle clubs.

Anderson suffered a night of brutality that shocked the populace of Green Bay. Suffering from a knife wound that left her nearly decapitated, Anderson was left for dead near a meat packing plant’s manure pile at the edge of town. The 35-year-old mother staggered back out onto the road where she would eventually succumb to her injuries.

The case ground to a halt following the successful convictions of three men, but the fourth suspect remained at large for three more years. Green Bay Police investigators contacted the producers of “America’s Most Wanted,” which was a new television show in 1985, and a production team soon arrived in Green Bay to shoot a dramatization.

The program aired on Father’s Day weekend, June 1988, and police in Golden, Colorado, made the arrest three days later. The capture was one of the early successes that propelled the show to national prominence.

“Torture at the Back Forty” takes readers through the painstaking police work involved with tracking down the prime suspect in the case, the interclub politics between the Drifters and DC Eagles motorcycle clubs that hampered the investigation, and the relentless efforts to track down the final suspect.
