Socially Responsible Investing at BCAE

BOSTON - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- WHAT: On Thursday, December 11th from 5:45PM-7:45PM, the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will hold a one session class on Socially Responsible Investing led by Sonia Kowal, Director of Socially Responsible Investing at Zevin Asset Management.  Kowall will be sharing her expertise on the essentials of how to succeed and earn enough money while simultaneously participating in great social change. Kowal will focus on the basic elements of enhancing your wealth while being conscious of avoiding companies that may have a negative impact on the world around us.”

The class will draw attention to attentive investing and the amount of money individuals channel away from destructive enterprises. With this includes industries that pollute and threaten the climate, companies that segregate or employ sweatshop labor, and businesses that manufacture harmful products like tobacco, and corporations that support oppressive governments. The course follows the belief that if people act on change, the world will be a healthier and more stable place to live in.

Sonia holds a BS in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh and an MS in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling, Scotland. She is an active member of US SIF (the Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment) as well as the Sustainable Investment Research Analyst Network and sits on the steering committee of US SIF's International Working Group. She is currently is on the board of Womenade Boston, a women's giving circle devoted to promoting awareness and funds for programs that greatly impact the lives of women and teen girls in the Boston area. Along with that, she is on the board of the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay and is a mentor through Year-Up.
