By: America's Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration 2014 will mark the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act. This momentous anniversary has been chosen as one of the features of the America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration event series. In tribute to her father, uncle and other civil rights leader’s commitment to the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Alveda King niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be the guest of honor for many of the weekend events. Dr. King will give speeches at the PIDC Patriotic Free Concert on Friday November 21st and opening ceremonies during the Grand Parade on Saturday November 22nd 2014. The highlight of Dr. King’s visit to America’s Hometown will be her participation in the Civil Rights Act Anniversary Float. The float will give a visual history of the Civil Rights Movement with photos of and quotes from the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “The Civil Rights Act Anniversary is one of the most important landmarks in our recent history. It opened the door for our society to embrace freedom and equality for all of our citizens. We are truly honored to have Dr. King here with us.
