MIAMI - Nov. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- As part of the gallery’s commitment to support education and the arts, the events will feature art students, established artists and local non-profit organizations

MIAMI, FL — (Nov. 20, 2014) — House of Art will be hosting three signature events during one of the busiest weeks for the art community, Miami Art Week 2014. Since its launch in 2002, Art Basel Miami Beach’s imprint has been a driving force in supporting the role that galleries play in the nurturing of artists, and the development and promotion of visual arts. The annual event has not only infused Miami’s booming art scene, it’s opened the doors to developing the arts within the local communities. Today, art galleries like House of Art are bringing arts education into the very fabric of the communities they serve, partnering with schools, civic groups, non-profit organizations and businesses to create and provide opportunities for students and emerging artists.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, House of Art will hold an exclusive, invitation-only Vernissage in honor of the 20 students chosen to exhibit from Miami Arts Charter School (MAC), located in Miami and Homestead, FL.  The exhibit, Young at ARTs, will feature work from a variety of media. All proceeds from the exhibit will benefit the House of Art Youth Program. Guests will also enjoy live music by MAC’s student band.

MAC provides a rigorous academic education with special emphasis placed on the performing and expressive arts to help foster and propel students’ artistic creativity and excite them about life itself.

On Friday, Dec. 5, the gallery will present “Future of Fashion,” a fashion show produced by and featuring students of DesignLab Miami. The show will feature wearable fashion made from unconventional materials and recycled items. The students, ages 5 to 15, are no strangers to fashion shows. Their collections have been on runways in local schools, at the Miami Children’s Museum and at local organizations’ fundraisers.

DesignLab has been nurturing a small cadre of designers for nearly five years. The North Miami-based creative studio specializes in teaching and promoting multiple aspects of the fashion industry to students of all ages, including sewing, textile design, fashion technology and 3D printing.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, House of Art will showcase We Live Here 2, an exhibit by Madrid-based advertising and industrial photographer Miguel Vallinas. Based on Vallinas’ photographic exhibit, Second Skins, which imagines clothes animals would choose for themselves if they could, We Live Here 2 shows an anthropomorphic blend of animals, fashion and the human form. Not only does Vallinas attribute clothes to the animals, he also portrays the types of personalities he imagines they would have. The artist looks at a variety of animals, including a few species of bird such as bustards, flamingos and vultures; swans; doe; stag; and more.

Guests will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres at all the events, as well as complimentary valet parking. The events are sponsored by Cope Design and Built.
