By: Family & Children's Association Attendees enjoyed dining, dancing and a lively program expertly presented by Mistress of Ceremonies Erin Colton of News 12 which included the presentation of the Fourth Annual James J. Harnett Humanitarian Award, named in memory of Family & Children’s former CEO and presented to distinguished individuals whose lives embody Jim’s commitment to the service of others. This year’s award was presented posthumously to Carol Wessel, former trustee and FCA Board chairperson in recognition of her leadership, commitment and generosity in caring for Long Island’s neediest children and families. The evening included a heart-felt speech by FCA client Andrew A. who shared details of his struggle to overcome gang involvement, homelessness and un-employment. With the help of Family & Children’s Association, Andrew has transformed his life by earning a high school equivalency diploma, is enrolled in a HVAC trade school program and works full-time employment as a facilities director. Andrew’ According to Mr. Marino, “my family and I are thrilled to help Family & Children’s continue their mission of caring for Long Island’s neediest children, seniors and families. It was an honor to be part of such a wonderful evening.” Family & Children’s CEO Jeffrey L.
