Family & Children’s Association Surpasses Goal At Thanksgiving Ball

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. - Nov. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Family & Children’s Association (FCA), one of Long Island’s largest human care agencies, raised over $255,000 at their annual gala, held on November 20^th at the Garden City Hotel.   Honoree William A. Marino, Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Star America in Roslyn, along with PSE&G, Mr. Scott Treiber, Mr. Ken Wessel, Arch Insurance, Baker Tilly, Farrell Fritz LLP and SKANSKA USA Civil helped the agencysurpass its fundraising goal.

Attendees enjoyed dining, dancing and a lively program expertly presented by Mistress of Ceremonies Erin Colton of News 12 which included the presentation of the Fourth Annual James J. Harnett Humanitarian Award, named in memory of Family & Children’s former CEO and presented to distinguished individuals whose lives embody Jim’s commitment to the service of others.  This year’s award was presented posthumously to Carol Wessel, former trustee and FCA Board chairperson in recognition of her leadership, commitment and generosity in caring for Long Island’s neediest children and families.   The evening included a heart-felt speech by FCA client Andrew A. who shared details of his struggle to overcome gang involvement, homelessness and un-employment.  With the help of Family & Children’s Association, Andrew has transformed his life by earning a high school equivalency diploma, is enrolled in a HVAC trade school program and works full-time employment as a facilities director.  Andrew’s testimony captured the essence of Family & Children’s mission to offer a hand up to anyone wishing to build a better life.
