Follow on Google News | Open Hearing - Neighborhood to face 5 years of Construction on Sunset BlvdArcher School wants to develop a larger campus that will impact already high traffic congestion on Sunset Boulevard and surrounding streets for several miles from all directions.
By: Residential Neighbors of Archer OPEN HEARING: MONDAY, DEC. 8th, 10:30 am - University Synagogue First Archer supporters will present their plans, which will follow by neighborhood residents from the many surrounding impacted areas, including several Homeowner Associations who will speak in behalf of 100's of residents in their associations. Recently West LA Councilman Bonin asked Archer to make dramatic changes to their project. One request was to expedite the construction schedule. Archer's response was to reduce the total time from six years to five years. A project still so enormous that it will take five years of thousands of haul trucks using Sunset Boulevard to haul 80,000 cubic yards from the project, in addition to the cement trucks and construction vehicles. Just think, 8,000 truck haul loads, 16,000 truck trips, eight hours a day, one truck every five minutes, on Sunset Blvd. for 80 days in optimal conditions in one of the most congested areas of the city. For the last four years Brentwood residents had to endure the effects of the I-405 widening project, now we are faced with more construction projects that will have a direct effect on Sunset Boulevard—the widening of Wilshire Boulevard near the VA for the Wilshire Bus Rapid Transit Project; California Incline Replacement; It now takes residents who reside 2.5 west of the 405 traveling on Sunset anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours to get to the freeway after 3 pm. Offshoot streets such as San Vicente are just as jammed. Neighbors gladly challenge all city planners to drive from 26th street to the freeway at 4:00 pm on any given Thursday or Friday afternoon to understand why the area cannot endure 5 years of construction on top of that!! Archer’s proposed project represents a substantial expansion of the school’s facilities and operations with no commitment to keep the existing use restrictions in place.
