Atlanta Hobby and Punkin Chunk Support Junior U.S. F3K Team At World Championships

CUMMING, Ga. - Dec. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- The Atlanta Punkin Chunk, a Discus Launch Glider (DLG) competition, recently donated its $500 profit from the event to the Team USA F3K Juniors. In what Atlanta Hobby President Cliff Whitney called “an investment in the future of our hobby,” Atlanta Hobby is matching the donation for a total of $1000. This will help support the travel costs to transport the three young men on the team, and their planes, to Ludbreg, Croatia for the 2015 World Championships. There, they will compete for the United States in the junior division and act as ambassadors of our hobby both at home and abroad.

         The US Team was selected over the weekend of Sept 25-27 2014 in Tremonton, Utah. Qualifying pilots met for the Team selection event to decide the three senior and three junior team members. Dillon Graves, a tenth-grader from Orlando, Florida, Noah Myers, a sixth-grader representing South Carolina, and Alex Trussell of central Ohio, who is returning from the 2013 World Championships team, were chosen for 2015. The team will compete alongside the adult Team USA members, an opportunity to develop the American DLG stars of tomorrow.

         The Punkin Chunk, held in Atlanta, GA, is traditionally the final DLG competition of the year in the United States. “The Chunk is about fun and passing knowledge and we have always encouraged first-time competition flyers,” Burt Watkins, Competition Director of the Punkin Chunk, said. “Supporting the junior team fits what the Punkin Chunk is all about.”

         “Atlanta Hobby will match the Punkin Chunk’s $500 donation,” Cliff added, “providing a total of $1000 to help support these outstanding young men in their efforts to win the World Championship for America.”
