Reading Draws 200 Real Men in DeKalb County Georgia

“Our goal is to allow our young people to see an army of Black Men spreading positive words of inspiration”

DECATUR, Ga. - Dec. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- American actor, director, producer and published author,Tommy Ford, AKA The Pope of Comedy has taken his Inspirational Children's book series, “I’VE GOT A JOB LITERACY program tour” directly to the children.

FORD and his “I’VE GOT A JOB book tour,” in association with the REAL MEN READ LITERACY PROGRAM, have partnered to read to children at Columbia Elementary School located at 3230 Columbia Woods Drive Decatur, Georgia 30032, on December 12, 2014 in DeKalb County, Georgia between the hours of 8am and 2pm EST.

Originally, the team set out to gather 100 men to undertake the project to deliver a message of hope, prosperity and success through literacy, however, once Ford began to lead the charge, 200 men who share the value of reading and believe in the opportunities that reading provides to students joined the charge to help to foster a love for reading and to help students make a positive connection with male role models in their community.

In light of recent activities across the country where authoritative figures are lurking in the shadows of a proverbial, “dim light,” Ford is passionate that now is an excellent time to gather men from a broad spectrum of leadership roles; doctors, lawyers, businessmen, culinary chefs, servicemen, police officers, educators, and numerous other professions, to dictate positive images to our youth.

“It is so important that young people see Black men of all walks of life sharing positive ingredients to success!”, “Men are trendsetters” Ford says.  “More often in our community men dictate to youth: style, fashion, habits and behaviors that young people embrace then duplicate. Whether those behaviors are positive or negative, they affect and shape our communities. Male athletes, rappers, singers, entertainers and preachers feed our children messages that mold a child’s attitude and perception of themselves and others!

Ford goes on to say, “Our goal is to allow our young people to see an army of Black Men spreading positive words of inspiration. Prisons are built on the results of third grade reading scores. We are gathering black men who dare to stand up to say NOT ON OUR WATCH!”

The “I’VE GOT A JOB LITERACY tour will visit a different school PER MONTH beginning in mid 2015 and ultimately, nation-wide.
