Follow on Google News | Design Trends for 2015 Focus on Luxurious Finishes, Lively ColorsInterior decorators are turning to vintage palettes for surprisingly fresh takes on colors for 2015. The aquas, olives and oranges of the early 1960s get new life when combined with streamlined shapes and up-to-date fabrics. Even the notoriously challenging hues of the 1970s are making a graceful return as accents on neutral pieces. Ethan Allen Boise Gallery owner, Jane Cliff offers, “Harvest gold is a tough color to use in an entire kitchen, but as piping on a throw pillow or a border on a rug, it harmonizes beautifully” Neutrals get new life when covered in luxurious fabrics and finishes. Soft leather in a cool Payne's gray or sophisticated taupe works well in almost any room and feels as good as it looks. Textures play a major role in keeping neutrals interesting, so top a leather sofa with a soft chenille throw, velveteen pillows or even tufted silk cushions. Pastels are still popular, but they get a little punch with bright accents. Cliff adds, “A room filled with pastels and neutrals can feel a little tired, but a jolt of brilliant Mediterranean blue or lipstick red gives it instant character”. When choosing accent colors for a largely pastel palette, look at opposing hues. Pastel blues and aquas are opposite oranges on the color wheel, so a bright tangerine print is the ideal complement to these tranquil hues. Cool mint green and candy-apple red are a lively color combination too.
