LOS ANGELES - Dec. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Film composer Kristian Sensini was recently honored with the Global Music Awards’ Silver Medal for his heartrending score in the celebrated animated memoir, “Rocks in My Pockets.”

Directed and written by Latvian animator Signe Baumane, “Rocks in My Pockets,” has been selected as Latvia’s entry for “Best Foreign Language” film at the upcoming 87th Academy Awards. Sensini’s work is also in contention for nomination. On Friday, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 114 scores have made the long list for best original score, which will be whittled down to five nominees. Sensini and Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli (“Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement”) are the only Italian composers vying for a spot.

“Rocks in My Pockets” centers on how Baumane and five women in her family handle depression. Their stories are told with visual metaphors and surreal images – all accompanied by Sensini’s dark and uplifting musical themes. The film is being released by Zeitgeist Films and will be screening at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival next month.

“I’m extremely lucky that I got the opportunity to work with Signe who has a very vivid, honest, daring and inspiring approach to sharing how she and her loved ones struggle with mental illness,” said Sensini, who composes music for thrillers, drama, fantasy and documentary films. “Knowing that so many people suffer from depression, ‘Rocks in My Pockets’ is an important film and I’m proud that it has gotten the recognition it deserves. I’m also ecstatic that the score itself could be an Academy Award nominee and so happy that I was awarded the Silver Medal.”

The Global Music Awards is a prestigious music competition that honors musicians, promotes emerging and unique artists from around the world. The Silver Medal is given for outstanding achievement. Sensini won the Global Music Award in 2013 for the horror movie, “Hyde’s Secret Nightmare.” His other credits include: “Butterfly Rising” (directed by Tania Wright) “Hyde’s Secret Nightmare” “Brightside” “Bloody Sin” and many more.

Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 15, 2015. The ceremony will be held on Feb. 22, 2015.
