Follow on Google News | Strictly the P.p.p.perfect Christmas P.p.p.presentA penguin at St Andrews Aquarium in Fife has been able to celebrate Christmas in strictly style this season after receiving an unexpected Christmas card and gift from Scottish Tennis Coach and British Federation Cup Team Captain, Judy Murray.
By: St Andrews Aquarium Judy the Penguin and Judy Murray have struck up a friendship on the social networking site, Twitter, with the tennis coach supporting her penguin namesake’s bid to charm fellow Twitter penguin Monty, of John Lewis fame, into a date. However, despite being in the spotlight of the world’s media when Judy retweeted the St Andrews Aquarium penguin’s acknowledgement of her son Andy’s engagement, Judy the Penguin failed in her festive bid to win Monty’s affections, as fellow penguin Mabel won the day. However, on 23rd December bosses at the Aquarium received an unexpected Christmas card in the mail from “Judy the Dancer”, along with a cheque for £100 to “treat yourself to something fishy”. Judy the Penguin took to twitter to thank her famous namesake who enquired if she’d had “any luck” with Monty. Judy the Penguin responded: “There was no Monty in my stocking L but plenty more fish in the sea for me….” Judy the Penguin was one the names selected by St Andrews Aquarium fan Elspeth Badger from Perthshire in a nationwide competition held to name all four penguins in 2013. The waddle was formally named in honour of Andy Murray following his triumphant win at Wimbledon in July 2013, and the women in his life: girlfriend Kim, Grandmother Shirley and Mum Judy. Judy visited St Andrews Aquarium in August 2013 to meet and feed the penguins and has since kept in touch via the social networking site Twitter.
