Follow on Google News | You Can See More Through The Trees Than You ThinkJanine Driver shows how body language is inspiring tree experts to look at their customer relationships differently and meaningful
By: Janine Driver - The Body Language Institute “EVERY DAY it is my goal, to inspire people to look at the world differently and imagine the impact that will have on your life when you are able to do that - when you are able to create DEEPER and MORE MEANINGFUL relationships with everyone you meet!” explained Driver. Body language tells your customers more about the person you’re portraying than the words you say or the tone in which you say them. Janine Driver revealed 3 easy solutions to key communication problems when establishing relationships. 1. Face-to-Face Discussions Problem: “In the office setting directly facing someone is intimidating because you have no visual way out and I have no visual way out, it increases our stress and anxiety,” Driver said. Solution: Sit at an angle for a more friendly and productive conversation. “Turn your chair 30% off-center, this is how we talk to our friends,” Driver explained. Just remember to return the chair to its original position before leaving. 2. Crossed Arms Problem: One of the biggest myths in body language is that crossed arms mean we're feeling defensive or that we're holding something back. “It is not true, it’s a myth, but it’s perceived that way in the office,” Driver said. Solution: “When you cross your arms, you're using both sides of your brain — the creative and numbers-driven parts. Research shows you’re 30% more likely to stay on a difficult task with crossed arms. So during brainstorming, it’s actually a good idea to cross your arms,” Driver revealed. She also added be careful not to misinterpret crossed arms, which may really indicate someone is in a puzzle-solving mode. 3. Talking with Your Hands Problem: Driver explains that while this may go unnoticed at home, at work using too many hand gestures can be perceived as anxiety or apprehension. “You will come across as someone who cannot handle difficult tasks,” She explained. Solution: Driver says, “Hand gestures should be in the frame of your body from your shoulders and they should match your point.” Your gestures should always talk with you and help to tell your story or bring your point across. Random gestures will leave you hanging and make you look awkward. Driver also offered a clever tip to combat fidgeting: In your shoes do 10 toe push-ups. You'll get the energy out and no one will see! “Thank you so much for presenting at our meeting in Charlotte. Your presentation was one of the best (and most applicable) that I have experienced in my 16 year career with Bartlett.” Jason Heizer, Local Manager, Bartlett Tree Experts, Virginia Beach, VA.
