Okaloosa County Schools place in Top 5 in Florida State "A" School Rankings

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Okaloosa County Florida, Jan. 8, 2014  — High School and K-12 school grades were released by the FL Dept. of Education for the 2013-2014 school year, and it was a top performance for Okaloosa County!

Speaking at the January 8, 2014 at the Okaloosa County School Board (OCSD) workshop, OCSD Superintendent Mary-Beth Jackson announced Okaloosa Schools finished 4th out of 67 Counties in percentage of “A” schools.

“I am proud of our A rating, and the fact that we had the 4th highest percent of A rated schools in the State of Florida”, reported Superintendent Mary-Beth Jackson.  “This high grade is a reflection of the hard work of our great students, faculty and staff.”

“Every school worked very hard to excel”, continued Jackson, “but I want to highlight the incredible performance delivered by Laurel Hill who went from a “D” to an “A”.  This represents the hard work between the students, faculty and district staff that goes into making us one of the top districts in Florida”.

Lee Martello, Laurel Hill’s principal, said three factors contributed to the leap: three new instructors working with struggling students, a music class that opened up time for teacher collaboration and teachers working with district level specialists in their subject areas.

“Our results are even more amazing when you consider Okaloosa had 36 schools achieve an “A” rating, said Jackson.  For instance, the districts in front of us had a combined 18 total “A” schools.  We congratulate our students and teachers on a great distinction!”
