Follow on Google News | College Gridiron Showcase announces Marques Colston as new VP of Bowl DevelopmentThe last All-Star Bowl Game of the college post-season announces partnership with NFL Pro Bowler Marques Colston
As CGS ends this season and those in the future, it will serve as a platform for many talented players to display their abilities for NFL scouts prior to the next NFL draft. Talent from all divisions all over the country will be brought together in this game, with star athletes from Division I college football all the way to the NAIA league. Scouts and office personnel in attendance will be just as varied, from the NFL, CFL, and AFL to other professional football leagues in hopes of finding the newest talents. As the primary mission of this game is to allow eligible players one last chance to display their athletic prowess on the field and have a chance at being invited to an NFL combine, and fuel hopes of one day being drafted in the NFL, the competition will be real. Future careers will be made in the CGS, especially among those players from smaller football programs who weren’t playing under the prime time lights of Division I college football. Which is why Marques Colston is arguably the ideal partner for the CGS. Even as a standout receiver at Hofstra University, Colston was a below the radar player until he played in the East/West Shrine game at the end of his college football career. While he was projected to be a mid to late round prospect in the 2006 NFL Draft, his five receptions, 82 yards and one touchdown performance in the East/West Shrine game that year proved he could play with some of the best talents in Division I college football, solidifying his draft pick by the New Orleans Saints. Had it not been for that final collegiate all-star game, Colston would never have gone on to rewrite the New Orlean’s Saints receiving records or help lead the team to a Super Bowl win in 2009. Which makes him personally and passionately invested in the CGS and its mission. Combined with his business experience managing other sports related companies like the professional indoor football team the Harrisburg Stampede and the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul, Colston is the ideal partner for a game like the CGS. The College Gridiron Showcase is set to take place on January 31, 2015 at UTA’s Maverick Stadium in Arlington, TX.
