Follow on Google News | Miller Hendry Keep it all in the FamilyBy: Volpa As a little girl, Julie remembers visiting her Dad’s offices, then situated on South Methven Street just above Delpippo’s Quality Café, which traded then as Miller Pinkerton. There she claims the perks of working in the law to her appears to be instant access to delicious hand- made Italian ice cream and the honour of sorting out her Dad’s post. Destined to be a solicitor from an early age, she commented: “I was always going to go into practicing the law, from a very early age it seemed like a great job, a vocation almost. I grew up watching both my Grandfather and Dad working, helping them out in the office whenever I could and I simply loved it.” “At university I typed for my Dad during the summer holidays and, once I qualified, I worked in Edinburgh for 15 years, although I am originally from Perth. So much of my life seems to have been steeped in Miller Hendry’s history that I very much take it for granted. I’ll be based out of Miller Hendry’s Crieff offices which is closest to where I live now, but I also remember when the company merged with J&J Miller, and when they first moved round to the Blackfriars Street offices in Perth – I had the dubious honour of being their tea lady! It was always fun to be around the offices, watching the buzz of things going on.” In John Darroch’s days, the solicitors of Miller & Pinkerton were referred to as “men of business” and took care of the general legal business of their clients. Moving down a generation, in Fraser Darroch’s lifetime the practice of law changed from being more generalist to increasingly specialized so while in his early days Fraser might have taken care of both your house purchase and your divorce, towards the end of his career Fraser was specializing more in what is now referred to as ‘private client matters’. Skip to the third generation and Julie Darroch specializes solely in residential conveyancing, and has years of expertise in her field of the law which she now brings to Miller Hendry’s practice in Crieff. John Thom, Chairman of Miller Hendry, commented: “Everyone at Miller Hendry is delighted to welcome Julie into the business and, in many respects, back to the company where she literally found her vocation as a solicitor. I remember working with her Father, Fraser Darroch, and I can also recall her short spell as both a tea lady and clerk at the firm. “I am lucky enough to represent the second generation in my family to work for Miller Hendry – my father was a partner with the firm at the same time Fraser Darroch worked here – so I completely relate to helping out during holidays and fondly recall one summer re-organising the title deeds safe while I was still a student! “It’s fantastic to have such an accomplished solicitor joining our residential conveyancing team and I’m sure there are many clients who will be pleased to see a third generation of the Darroch family back at Miller Hendry.” ENDS For further information, please contact Tricia Fox, Volpa, Tel: 07989 955039 or 01738 658187, Email: t.fox@volpa.co.uk Notes for Editors Miller Hendry For more information, please visit: www.millerhendrysolicitors.co.uk Contact details: Ernie Boath, Partner and Head of Private Client Department 13 Ward Road Dundee Tel: 01382 200000 Email: ernestboath@ End
