By: Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler The Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation donated nearly $70,000 to finance the renovations, including painting the rooms and adding furniture such as pull-out couches and tables and chairs for guests. “Florida Hospital DeLand is committed to providing birth care and obstetrics services,” said Lorna Jean Hagstrom, Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation chair. “Labor can be a long experience sometimes, and expecting or new parents can get exhausted through the process. We wanted to provide that comfort for them so they can rest and care for their babies.” These completed renovations come on the heels of Florida Hospital’s recent announcement to merge the operations of the BirthCare Centers at its hospitals in Daytona Beach and DeLand. Both obstetrics units at Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center will remain open and active as the hospitals standardize processes, policies, and procedures. With this new integration, the birth care units at these two hospitals will be connected more formally than ever before. Staff and nurses from both units will be cross-trained to provide extra support so that they can work effectively at either location during times of high patient census. In the last year, Florida Hospital DeLand has made efforts to strengthen its birth care program. In August 2014, the hospital opened a new obstetrics and gynecology practice at Victoria Medical Park with local obstetricians/ In addition, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has plans to open a Level II NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) in late 2016.
