6th Congressional District High School Art Awards Presented by Congressman Seth Moulton

Peabody Veterans Memorial High School senior George Andrias has been named Grand Prize Award Winner in this year's 6th Congressional District High School Art Show. The awards will be presented Saturday, March 7, 3:30–5pm.
 
BEVERLY, Mass. - March 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Peabody Veterans Memorial High School senior George Andrias has been named Grand Prize Award Winner for his piece “Bad Hair Day” in this year's 6th Congressional District High School Art Show. The awards will be presented Saturday, March 7, 3:30 – 5 p.m. by U.S. Representative Seth Moulton at Montserrat College of Art’s 301 Gallery, 301 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA. The exhibit will be on display Wednesday, March 4 - Saturday, March 7, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the 301 Gallery.

This marks the 21st year that Montserrat has hosted this competition. The exhibit included 121 pieces from 26 different high schools and one home-schooled submission. The competition was open to high school students from public and private schools within the 6th District of Massachusetts, as well as high school students home-schooled within the district.

SECOND PRIZE

THIRD PRIZE
Aimee Casavant, Grade 10, “Fading Memories”
Reading Memorial High School

Each winner will be presented with a citation from Congressman Moulton and varying levels of scholarships to Montserrat’s Summer Pre-College Program. George Andrias’ grand prize winning piece will be sent to Washington, DC where it will hang in the Capitol building for one year along with winners from other Congressional districts across the country. A ceremony to congratulate all the winners will be held in Washington, DC in June.

The exhibition was juried by Artist Judy Schmid and Artist Lee Essex Doyle. After retiring from a successful career as a graphic designer, Judy Schmid has become a skilled fine artist who works in encaustic. The next show of her paintings opens at the Marblehead Art Association on March 21. She lives in Marblehead with her husband. A graduate, and a trustee, of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Lee Doyle is an accomplished painter. Her work is shown in galleries in Boston and in New York. She lives in Beverly Farms with her family.
