Dr J Vijay Venkatraman unanimously nominated as Chair of ISCR Pharmacovigilance Council

COIMBATORE, India - March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Dr. J. Vijay Venkatraman, Managing Director & CEO of Oviya MedSafe, a global Pharmacovigilance Consulting and Drug Safety Services company based out of Coimbatore, India and London, UK has been unanimously nominated as the Chair of the newly formed Pharmacovigilance Council of the Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR) for the period 2015-17, which was announced at the 8th Annual Conference of the association held at Gurgaon, India. ISCR, founded in the year 2005 and registered in Mumbai under the Indian Societies Registration Act (1860), aims to build awareness of Clinical Research as a specialty in India and to facilitate its growth in the country while helping to evolve the highest standards of quality and ethics. This professional society brings together all stakeholders of Clinical Research such as pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, clinical investigators, ethics committees and other allied professionals from throughout the country, providing a forum for exchange of information and learning.

Quite recently, Dr Vijay became the first person in India to be awarded the Fellowship of the Pharmaceutical Information and Pharmacovigilance Association, UK (FPIPA) in line with the eligibility criteria set by PIPA as a professional accreditation association. PIPA is an international professional organization for individuals who are involved in the provision and management of medical information and those involved in the fulfillment of regulatory requirements relating to drug safety. The association was formed in 1974 and now has over 800 members from many countries who work in a variety of pharmaceutical information management roles, such as medical information, pharmacovigilance, scientific research information and business information. PIPA is headquartered at Haslemere in Surrey, UK.

Dr  Vijay’s passion for Drug Safety is well-known in the global community and he is regarded a thought leader in Pharmacovigilance in the global pharmaceutical arena. His insight was given prime importance in the editorial of the internationally renowned Wall Street Journal of its recently published article titled “New Outsourcing Frontier in India: Monitoring Drug Safety”. He had commented in that article about the strong growth in the industry in India over the past eight years: Approximately 15,000 professionals work in this industry in India today, compared to a mere 200 to 300 back in the year 2007.
