We Starts With Me “We Starts With Me” documents through spoken word, song and video, the thoughts of students at Friends’ School in Boulder, Colorado on building community and how to inspire others starting with oneself. A collaboration between18 elementary students ranging in age from 7-9, teacher Diane Bramble and music teacher Monica Waterhouse, the film was conceived, shot and edited in eight days with the guidance of fellow student/film performer Sadie Melendez’s mother Rachel Lederman and her creative/production agency Sweet Sadie Inc. Inspired by President Obama’s Assignment; "Every day in classrooms and communities throughout our country, young people are making an impact in the lives of others through service and giving back. Volunteering takes so many different forms in our country and is one of the most important experiences that you can have. Service to others and giving back can offer purpose and perspective. You may find that making a difference in your community or in someone else’s life is an experience that can make a difference in your own life. President Obama has said that service gave him a compass, a center, and a sense of direction of how he wanted to live his own life", filmmaker Rachel Lederman and her 8 year old daughter Sadie were excited to do a project together. Lederman added “This was an amazing chance to bond with my daughter and her classmates and teach the kids a little bit about the art and craft of film making. I wanted to show them how ideas can often start out in one way, but through the art of film making can come out in a totally different way and always be open to it - be creative! The class really worked well together and in the end I think it really strengthened the class and deepened the learning process for them.” “We Starts With Me’ was filmed on a Mini iPad 2 with a rig made by iOgrapher (http://www.iographer.com) to turn it into a camera and coupled with the app: filmicpro (http://www.filmicpro.com).
