Follow on Google News | Inaugural Truth Awards to Honor Actor Wendell James of “Raising Whitley” with The Philanthropy AwardIt’s no secret that Wendell James is a not just a “talker” but he is a “doer”. Not only has James taught HIV/AIDS education for more than 20 years but, he has also stood as a financial supporter in the fight to stop the spread of the disease and to help provide resources to those living with it. James is very passionate about the physical and emotional well being of others as he recently sounded off in a heartfelt episode of “Raising Whitley” where he shared his struggles with his sexuality and his Christian faith. The episode spawned an influx of conversation in the LGBT and faith based communities across the country. James is also featured on the cover of the March issue of A&U Magazine with a 4-page layout and “No Holds Barred” interview with Stevie St. John. The star-studded awards show will be co-hosted by SAG-nominated actress Cocoa Brown (Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse”) and award-winning comedian Sampson McCormick, the first openly gay comic to headline the historic venue in Washington, D.C. There will be performances by neo-soul artist Rahsaan Patterson and Grammy-nominated singer Angie Fisher and a special performance by the Lula Washington Dance Company, choreographer Ken Morris, honoree Darren “Buttah Man” Brin and more.
