Priced Out of Love: Dramatic, Interracial Romance Hits Best-Seller’s List

When asked about the honor, Ms. Black said, “I was flattered, of course. The site has thousands of romance novels by some extremely talented writers. So the fact that mine made the best-seller’s list was quite the shock -- and a great honor.”

When asked why she feels this novel has resonated with readers, the author explained. “You never know what readers are going to take to. But in this case, I’d say it was the subject matter. Millions of single mothers deal with issues like child support (or lack thereof); contentious child custody battles; divorces that degenerate into power struggles – all while still having to raise their child(ren). I think at some point they’d all like a Tristan to come along and rescue them. So I guess it’s the way the realism and the fantasy are woven together realistically that makes this romantic novella so relatable.”

“So what are you working on now?” the prolific author was asked.

“Well Part II to this one, of course. When readers take to a book – even if you don’t plan a series (which I hadn’t with this novel) – they inevitably want more, more, more of these characters because they’re invested in them emotionally. And, the characters started speaking to me, so a Part II was kind of inevitable I realized almost immediately after finishing Part I.”

“Can you give us a sneak peek of Part II?”

"Not yet," Ms. Black said sheepishly. "Let’s just say the drama with Lisa’s ex gets turned way up in Part II, and an old flame of Tristan’s comes back on the scene. Part II will be out very soon – by the end of this month (March)."

OVERVIEW

Lisa's soon-to-be ex-husband, Steven, left her almost homeless with a two-year-old to care for. A divorce attorney, he's threatened to take her daughter away unless she agrees not to ask for child support and alimony, which she needs to support herself and her child.

Cynthia, a close friend and high-priced escort, asks her to go on a date that pays $5,000 for one night -- no sex involved. Lisa reluctantly agrees, but decides during the date that this is a line of work she could never pursue.

However Tristan, the wealthy bachelor who is her suitor for the evening, has a much more permanent arrangement in mind -- one that could secure her and her daughter's future financially, but may ultimately cost her more in the long run.
