From 2007 to 2013, global cheese consumption increased by 1.4%. The highest annual growth rates between 2007 and 2013 were registered in Argentina with 8.1% growth, Russia and Poland with 4.7% and 3.4% growth, respectively. In the USA, the world’s leading cheese consuming country, per capita consumption was estimated at 16.2 kg/year, higher than the global average (2.9 kg/year). The highest levels of cheese consumption were registered in Greece (24.9 kg/year), France (23.2 kg/year) and Italy (23.1 kg/year). China (0.2 kg/year) and Belarus (0.5 kg/year) had the lowest volumes of cheese consumption. In the USA, the UK, Germany and Italy, per capita cheese consumption was relatively stable. Population growth induced a slight increase in consumption, approximately 0,8% from 2007 to 2013. In Russia, cheese consumption grew rapidly over the period under review. In 2013, Russia’s per capita consumption reached 7.5 kg/year as compared with 5.7 kg/year in 2007. The USA dominated in global cheese production, while the leading exporter was Germany. In 2013, Germany exported 52% of its total cheese output.
