The most notable growth rates in primary vegetables production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2013 were attained by Viet Nam (+11% per year), while the other Asian leaders (China, India and Turkey) experienced a more modest pace of growth. 62.0% of the increase in Asian primary vegetable production between 2007 and 2013 was attained by China, against 21.3% of the increase attributed to India. Asian production of primary vegetables was estimated at 876.3 million tonnes in 2013, which was 22.5 million tonnes more than in 2012. In value terms it reached 377.3 billion USD, which was the peak production level recorded from 2007 to 2013. Area harvested of primary vegetables illustrated modest growth over the last five years, with an average annual increase of 2%. Primary vegetable yield showed growth, though the pace of growth was lower than harvested area indicators. It is worth noting that Asian countries do not tend to exercise the land use intensification policy. In 2013, primary vegetable yield stood at 204.5 thousand Hg/Ha.
