Union Carpenters gift wheelchair ramp to local family

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - May 8, 2015 - PRLog -- In mid-April, Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) members from Local 232 in Fort Wayne volunteered their time and skills to build a wheelchair ramp for a local family in need.

Local 232 members partnered with Turnstone, a center that builds wheelchair ramps for adults and children with disabilities, to complete the project. “The family didn’t have the resources to get the ramp built,” commented IKORCC representative William Klein. “We know it will enhance the family’s quality of life, and it’s awesome to do this. It’s our way to show support for people.”

The Carpenters built a ramp that spanned from home's deck to the walkway leading up to the house.

“Community service is a huge focus of the IKORCC and our members,” said Shane Harris IKORCC Millwright Representative. “When we learned that Turnstone had a three to six month waiting list to build ramps, we immediately knew we had to get involved. There are about 20 people on the waiting list for ramps, so we wanted to work with Turnstone to build the ramps as quickly, efficiently and professionally as we could.”
