Follow on Google News | Mobile County Teen Volunteer Fair Set for SaturdayTeen volunteer fair in Mobile, AL, connects high school students with community service opportunities.
By: City of Mobile Community Activities Program The fair is a collaboration between the City of Mobile Parks & Recreation Community Activities Program and the Mobile County Public School System. More than 20 local nonprofit groups will be at the fair with information on how interested students can volunteer with their organizations. Participating agencies offer diverse opportunities to volunteer from learning about gardening and farming to helping with food distribution to creating a safer neighborhood to working at the Exploreum. Organizations in this first year event include Alabama Coastal Foundation,American Red Cross, A Servant's Love, City of Prichard, Bay Area Food Bank, City of Mobile Parks & Recreation, Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Citizens Center, Goodwill Easter Seals, The Gulf Coast Exploreum, Light of the Village, Mobile Public Library, Pawsativity, Safe Kids Now/Kids Initiative, Tri-Coastal Community Outreach, United Way of Southwest Alabama, and Victory Teaching Farm. “Our goal is to connect teen volunteers with local non-profit and/or service organizations throughout Mobile County,” said Mellanie Johnson, Community Activities Program Supervisor. “This is a great opportunity for teens who want to volunteer or need service hours to find out about service learning in our area.” The first 100 students attending will receive a special gift bag or hat. There will also be door prizes, and lots of other stuff! Registration opens at 9 a.m. The fair is open to all high school students, and there is no cost to attend.
