MOBILE, Ala. - July 9, 2016 - PRLog -- The Peninsula of Mobile will present the Corridor Master Plan for the peninsula portion of Dauphin Island Parkway, I-10 south to the Dog River Bridge, Tuesday, July 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Fulton Road Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1800 Dauphin Island Parkway. A celebration reception will follow immediately in the gymnasium.  The public is invited to attend both events.

The Corridor Master Plan was completed in conjunction with Goodwyn, Mills, Cawood, Inc., the same engineering firm that prepared the Map for Mobile Comprehensive Plan and others in the Gulf Coast region.  "We are excited to reveal the Plan to our neighbors and hope that it can serve as the framework for responsible growth on the Peninsula for decades to come," said Stewart Hanley, Peninsula board president.

The plan began in 2013, when local residents and neighborhood organizers created a vision encouraging low impact economic redevelopment of Mobile's unique community through flood resilience. In the years since, city, state and Federal agencies have joined in partnership to develop the Corridor Master Plan for the Peninsula of Mobile.

"Without input from community residents, our board of directors, partners and supporters, this Master Plan would not be possible," said Debi Foster, co-founder and executive director.

The area is unique to Mobile, as it is the drainage basin catch-all for all the waters flowing south from Dog River onto the western    shoreline of the peninsula and freshwater flow from the Delta brings everything to the community's eastern shoreline.  Much of the area is filled with asphalt and concrete resulting in street flooding and water quality issues that impact the community's residential and commercial economic development.

"We are excited about growing alongside our partners at Brookley Aeroplex, "Foster said, adding, "Now we have a blueprint for responsible growth that embraces our abundant natural resources and gives us a path forward."

Hanley commented that the Peninsula Master Plan creates great opportunity for the City of Mobile's only coastal community.  "For the first time, we have the foundation to begin to address complicated issues that have historically hamstrung this area." he said.

The Master Plan will be available on July 13 online at the Peninsula of Mobile website www.thepeninsulaofmobile.org.
